Vibrant nightspots are haunts that serve to enthrall both the young and young at heart. The crowd it lures, its quality and pace of life and the adrenaline rush form the fabric of the night scene, where it has repeatedly been proven to be a reservoir filled with excitement. Herms Herman, a young and promising new artist, a graduate from Lasalle College of the Arts in 2009 with Hons Bachelor Degree in Fine Arts, is waiting to spread the verve of his novel artworks.
This far-from-novice is one of the new breed of illustrators, mixing the unbridled imagination of an artist with the obsessive skill of graphic design. His work fuses international standards of high glamour and street chic with motifs of urban culture together with the gritty images of the contrasting bright lights of the night life. A thing of beauty, coupled with his imagination, is being transformed into an exquisite, bold and almost flat pattern of spot lights and icons symbolic with sexual thematic ideas. ‘I who crave sunshine, Starlight, Limelight, Flashing lights... Cigarettes smoke in the night, soulful art with pure passion, moral depravity hence superior intelligence, hard dance music makes me wild, bodily contact with sexual energy, I'm a creature perfect by nature, an icons of self indulgence and a victim of circumstances...’
A favorite quote he would explain himself with, these notions exemplify his interests reflected in the combination of myriads of dynamic colours, especially those of the rainbow, with repetitions of glossy lips and painstakingly observed come-hither eyes. Then after layering over bright bold paints, it rounds up with his perception of iconic objects which makes his work instantly recognisable in all its hypnotic variety. His interest in artificial material also manifests itself in his wall decoration collection where patterns are sprayed and splashed on different material, such as metal plate, glass, mirror and canvas. |
